Public service has turned into a lifetime career, a power play that harms our country. Earmarking monies for projects to ensure a Congress member’s re-election or fill the pockets of a friend, or empowering lobbyists to influence votes instead of representing the best interests of constituents and our country, are unacceptable uses of a public service position.
We must end this cycle of corrupt political influence by passing a Constitutional Amendment to limit terms in Congress.
I would introduce a measure to limit members of the House of Representative to three two-year terms (a total of six years), and the Senate to two six-year terms (a total of twelve years).
Any member who has served the maximum time in the House and Senate would be retired after 18 years.
That’s long enough.
