ROBERT BLAHA RESPONDS TO LAMBORN’S “WHY A PRIMARY?”
Robert Blaha, a Colorado Springs businessman, who formally announced his candidacy for Congress as a Republican in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District on January 20th, responded to Congressman Doug Lamborn’s recent interview with the Gazette. The Gazette described Lamborn as saying that he doesn’t understand how he earned a primary in 2012.
Blaha responded that there is no entitlement to a Congressional seat. “Our country was founded on the basis of representative government. Respectfully, none of our elected officials has earned the right to have no competition – particularly a member of our current Congress. When the voters don’t feel well-represented by their elected officials, they look for a better alternative,” said Blaha. “There is no lifelong appointment to elective office.”
Blaha spoke at the El Paso County Republican Party Central Committee on Saturday and personally talked with many voters who were excited to see him enter the race. “This event was my introduction to those in our party who faithfully labor at the grass-roots level. The enthusiasm for my candidacy was encouraging. Voters appreciate someone who votes correctly, but many are looking for more than that; in addition to conservative votes, they want someone who is a proven leader and has the ability to effectively articulate the conservative message we share.”
Blaha added that he “looks forward to a spirited debate focused on the issues.”
